Olive Senior was born and brought up in Jamaica. She was educated in Jamaica (Montego Bay High School) and Canada (Carleton University) and at the Thomson Foundation in the UK. In Jamaica, Senior has been editor of two of the Caribbean’s leading Journals – Social and Economic Studies at the University of the West Indies and Jamaica Journal, published by Institute of Jamaica Publications of which she was also Managing Director. In recent years, she has spent much of her time abroad and since 1993 has been based in Toronto, Canada.

ANTHONY C. WINKLER is the prolific writer of novels, textbooks, biographies, short stories and newspaper articles. Jamaican-born-and-raised, Winkler immigrated to the United States in 1962. He attended California State University at Los Angeles, where he received B.A. and M.A. degrees in English. Winkler's first screenplay was "The Lunatic," adapted from his 1987 comic novel. A feature film, produced by Chris Blackwell, was released in 1991. His other novels are "The Painted Canoe", "The Great Yacht Race" and "The Duppy." He wrote the biographies "Going Home to Teach" and "Bob Marley: an Intimate Portrait by His Mother".

Jeun'Espoir Jamaïque is a group of 15 teenagers from Orléans, Ontario, Canada. In March of 2003, during their scheduled school holiday, the youths ranging from ages 17 to19 traveled to the poverty-stricken areas of Kingston, Jamaica.
