Miss PeBeep

Published Mar 28, 2004

Hello my name is Sheryl Horne. I sometimes publish my articles under the pen-name Miss Pebeep; a name I acquired from friends who found and used one of the many puns to my surname, the possibilities of which you would not want to begin to imagine.

I hail from the parish of Portland, Jamaica where I grew up in the coastal town of Long Bay on the eastern side of the Island. Both a past student and teacher of the Titchfield High School, I pursued my diploma in Teacher Education at the Mico Teachers’ College. In contrast to my present boring life, I have oftentimes craved to live my life in the fast lane, but have not had success in even putting on that “indicator”.

With the advent of the computer coming shortly after I had completed my Teachers’ diploma in Education, I made an attempt to switch professions to the field of Computer Studies. I applied to C.A.S.T with the hope of pursuing studies there, but was rejected due to my lack of proficiency in the area of Mathematics, a subject, I still have not yet mastered.

In lieu of this deterrent, I was determined to learn as much as I could on my own. Additional prompting and encouragement from my learned other half further motivated me to “give it all I’ve got”. I spent vast amounts of my time, sometimes grabbing a snack instead of cooking in order to get enough time after work in order to teach myself. I learnt by trials and errors, Video Professors, books and observations from my other half, who is also a self taught technician who has much knowledge and experience in the field. Well I must say my efforts have paid off in my acquiring some of the knowledge I was searching for, as I am now very confident in my ability to comfortably work with the computer in the use of various software programs, easily adapting to new programs when exposed. Since mastering these skills I have even taken on private students who need training because of their job requirements or for personal gain. My latest achievement, a skill taught to me by my better half, has zeroed in on the techniques of building and assembling a PC, load the basic OS and installing the appropriate drivers.

Well the sky is the limit, wouldn’t you say ??!!!

My Aim: Have myself and my other half “land” ourselves decent, well-paid jobs in the Computer Field.

Needs: To add much more excitement to me, so that I do not miss out on the fun loving side of my teenage daughter.

I Dream: Of Aladdin. If he were here, I am sure he would have his lamp and just maybe I could make a wish or two that I am sure would come true.
