Why is the Church so silent?

Published Jun 29, 2006

Don't just talk about it in church. These people do not attend church but they listen to radio, watch television

THIS IS an open letter to all the religious leaders.

Why are you all so silent on what is happening in the country? Are you all in agreement with the murders, violence, rape and robberies? If you are not, why are you all not saying something?

Why are you all not on TV, radio or writing about the atrocities in the newspapers?

I am sure JBC Radio would rent you or maybe grant you a few minutes each day to talk about the situation. Remember the days of "a certain artiste" with his vulgar songs, and how he said that Jamaicans liked nastiness? But there was a man of God who never stopped speaking and writing about it until this artiste had to cease producing those songs.

NOT BEYOND REDEMPTION

These gunmen and robbers are not beyond redemption, they just need the right people to show them the error of their ways often enough and they will change their lifestyle. "How can they except some one should guide them? (Acts 8:31). Tell them about Jesus Christ and the great command he gave us, "to love the Lord thy God with all they heart, and with all thy soul and with all thy mind and the second is like unto it, to love thy neighbour as thyself" (Matthew 22:37-39 & Mark 12: 29-31). Tell them who their neighbour is Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:33-35).

No one is too vile that cannot be saved. It is better to declare the truth and be rejected, than to withhold it just to be accepted. In every desert of calamity, God has an oasis of comfort.

Help our fallen brothers and sisters to show love and compassion to each other. Speak out against the evil that has overtaken our land and help to make Jamaica land we love a better place.

God bless you all.
