So I am getting my NBA fix when I come across the story of Antoine Walker the former NBA player who played a role in getting my team (Miami Heat) a championship. It is estimated that he earned $60-65 million dollars after tax in his 10 year career. He has blown it all and has creditors knocking at his door. Hello there…can someone explain to me how you can lose that much money in 10 years. Well apparently Mr Walker had a spending habit of someone who thought money grows on trees. I guess no one told him different. See the story on his spending habits here.
Since Bolt’s amazing performance in the 2009 World Championship it seems that NFL writers and some sportscasters want him to play in the NFL. They are envisioning him as a wide receiver who will blow by just about everyone. I hear them calling for team to try him out.
Why would anyone want to do this when they already making a decent living running? The hits his body will have to take (if he is caught) will cause major injures. I just don’t see this happening but them again money talks…
With the web you get the ability to see people self-destruct as images and video of everyone’s private life is on display. Case in point, Stephan Marbury. He has been video blogging all summer and it has been pathetic. I feel sorry for him. If you are looking for a job, as Marbury is, why would you smoke ganja on video.
I remember growing up in Jamaica I always heard the “the ball is round”. Which means on any given day the underdog can beat the favorite. That is the way I felt about the US win over Spain. It is not going to drive people who live in the US to become fans of soccer. It seems like quite a few people agree based on a Yahoo poll here that asked the questions “What is the status of U.S. soccer now?” See the current results. What is the status of U.S. soccer now?
World Cup title contender 13%
Team no one wants to play 16%
No difference … just a great win 72%
Jamaican Jerome Jordan will not be in the 2009 NBA draft. He is going back to Tulsa for his senior year. In the draftexpress.com 2010 mock NBA draft he is projected to go in the first round in 2010. Team always need a big man and if he improves on his scoring and blocks he will be in the first round.
After Saturday’s season ending loss to Orlando in Game 6 Lebron James quickly hurried off the court without shaking hand of a single player on the opposing team. What Lebron did was very disappointing and showed a lack of respect for a team that beat them. Also a lack of respect for the game of basketball that gave him respect.
He had the respect of everyone during this season and he won the MVP. He had the respect of the referees during the play-off who called every “tick-tack” in his favorite. He had the respect of Nike who created the Lebron muppet show commercials. As they say to gain respect hen you give it. He gave none.
He can clap dust in the air and do all the showmanship during the games. However when there was an opportunity to show some class and he did not. What type of example is he setting for upcoming athletes. I can excuse him not showing up to the media but him not taking 10 seconds to shake hands with someone from Orlando is inexcusable. His explanation was lame. “It’s hard for me to congratulate somebody after you just lose to them. I mean, I’m a winner. That’s not being a poor sport or anything like that,” he told reporters back at the team’s facility Sunday in Cleveland. “Somebody beat you up, you’re not going to congratulate them on beating you up.
“I’m a competitor,” he added. “That’s what I do. It don’t make sense to me to go up and shake somebody’s hand.”
It seemed like he was inserting his foot in his mouth even deeper with those comments.
He clearly knew what he was doing because he shook NBA great Oscar Robertson’s hand as he was leaving the court. Hopefully he learns from this? Maybe Dwayne Wade can teach him a little bit about class.
