I am sure many of you heard about Mr O’Reilly’s comments about his visit to a black restaurant in NYC. If not you can see the transcript here. I am not condoning what he says because it was really stupid especially for someone who lives in a city that is diverse. However I can see where you can live in a city and not interact with other cultures. There are cities in South Florida where you can stay within your culture and never interact with other. There is Little Havana, Little Haiti and “Jamaica Hill” (Lauderhill).
I attended the South Florida Jerk Festival on Sunday. Each year this festival gets bigger and bigger. Unlike many events that go bad as it grows this one has gotten better each year. Why?

On the weekend my wife and I were in a deep conversation while watching TV when suddenly we both went silent. Out mouths were wide open. It was an interracial(IR) commercial featuring a black and white couple. We looked at each other with surprise. I did not know she was going to have the same reaction I did.

Yesterday four police officers came under fire from a suspect using a high powered weapon. One of the officers died. The other 3 were injured. The most serious was injury was to a lady officer of Jamaican decent. When it is a fellow Jamaican it seems even more personal.
There have been a spree of police shooting in the South Florida area for the past 2 months so this was news all day yesterday. My wife and I paid avid attention to the story on the news as police from everywhere converged in Miami to looking for the suspect. The suspect was killed in a shoot out with the police.
