I have a problem with Mr McCain’s response to this question. He seemed totally
okay with Hillary Clinton being called a “bit**”. There was no rebuke of the
usage of the term. In fact he knew exactly who the lady was talking about (the
term is now unisex). His response about respecting the Democratic candidate just seems like he is trying to “skirt” the questions and seem like he respects her as woman. But no rebuke. I understand that woman who succeed in a man’s world are viewed a tough but do they deserve to be called “bit**s”. Now the funny thing is that the Mrs. Clinton campaign cannot use this against McCain as she does not want to draw attention to the herself. She was already accused of playing the “woman card”. This white elephant will continue to be in the room for the duration of this election season.
Something about Mr. McCain’s response to this question just does not seem right.
One of the things I love to do is talk to Jamaicans who lived in Jamaica before I was born (I am trying not to say older people..dwl). Many of the discussion do not start out about Jamaica but they eventually go there. This past week the discussion was on cancer as we had a friend’s wife just died from the disease. My in-law’s started to reminisce about sickness in Jamaica. They explained that in the country there were times when someone would get sick from what they now believe is cancer but no one knew what it was. People were very secretive about sickness and some did not go to a doctor. As the person continued to lose weight rumors would go around the district that “Duppy Suck Dem”. People believed that a “duppy” was sucking the life out of the person.
Should a grown man be ridiculed for crying. No. It think this show of emotion can help to show the sensitive side of man. The side the many women claim we don’t have. Should men cry often to get sympathy…no. However an occasion cry can earn some “bulla points”. I have to admit that the water has welled in my eyes on a few occasions when something tugs at my heart. Most recently I watched the show on ABC where the re-build a homes for a family. My heart tugged and a tear fell out my eye. It was just too much watching how thankful they were for the new home. Now you have to ask my wife and daughters if I am less of a man. I think the best men cry…
A friend sent me this interested article about Al Sharpton. I think it captures the sentiment of many people. I know it captures the way I feel. Why is it that when the media wants to opinion on a “black” issue they use Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson. Are they just lazy to go out and find other black “leaders” or is it because they are expecting them to say something controversial. I say the later…
Check out the real situation
Nation war against nation
Where did it all begin, when will it end
Well it seems like the total destruction
The only solution
And there ain’t no use
No one can stop them now
Ain’t no use nobody can stop them now Excerpt from Real Situation by Bob Marley
As oil prices go up. as Pakistan becomes unstable, as the drum beat for war in Iran gets stronger and as the announcement of the sanctions against Iran, it seems like this Bob Marley song is fitting. Is total destruction the only solution. We clearly seem to be headed in that direction.
Is it me or did the “Christmas store decorations start really early this year. I think I started seeing the decoration in September and now that Halloween is done it is “full blown Christmas”. Every store I go in there is Christmas stuff and the sales inserts are pushing Christmas items. I am going to make a bold prediction that at the rate we are going the “commercial” Christmas will start in January something in the near future.
This weekend the pastor at church was preaching how the media and culture define our behaviour. It really does. We are bombarded with the images they control or advertise. It clearly can affect our behaviour. It is ironic that this topic was preached on Sunday as the previous week I met a gentleman who say he does not watch any news and limits himself to 1 hour of TV a week. I am news “junkie” so I am not sure if I could do this. However after this sermon and the push for me to start Christmas shopping now, I am giving it some serious thought.
A few weeks ago I wrote about the US Presidential race and who I think would not win. Well if we were to divide the race into the real world and the “virtual world” it seems we would have a clear cut winner. As many of you know the more friends on your favorite social network site the more popular you are. According to the news Obama is beating all the other candidates online at Facebook and Myspace.
