OAS Survey – Caribbean is lacking a cybercrime unit

A recent OAS survey states that the Caribbean is lacking a cybercrime unit. My first thought is always Jamaica when it comes to the Caribbean. We are lacking an equipped police like many places in the world. Cybercrime is probably the last thingon the minds of many of these governments. The funny thing is when these types of negative reports come out these governments react because it puts them in a bad light to the rest of the world (potential investors). The Human trafficking for sex report was one that also put Jamaica in a bad light a few years back. Maybe there will be a Jamaican version of Dateline’s “To catch a predator”. It would tackle issues sex crimes and cybercrime. I can’t picture a Jamaican version of this.

A Very Quiet Christmas Dinner…Too Quiet..

We host the yearly Christmas Dinner. It is a time to celebrate the birth of Christ with food, fellowship and games. What I look forward to the most is the “heated discussions”. There are normally about 2-3 topics where all the Jamaican males “battle” to get their points across. Today there was nothing. No heated discussion on the sports. None on US politics. None on Jamaican politics. None on the US economy. None on “what Jamaica needs”. I can’t put my finger on what happened this year but I miss these heated discussions…I wonder if my dinner prayer about God’s Christmas gift to man took away those heated discussion gifts to me :-?

Why do I torture myself sports

I watched the Dolphins play today. They did not win the game. I trying to figure out why continue to watch the current South Florida sports team. The Florida Marlins were horrible. The University of Miami were horrible and did not get a bowl game. The Dolphins are horrible and will go down as one of the worst NFL teams. I won’t even talk about my beloved Miami Heat. This is one of the worst years for sports in South Florida. Why do I continue to support and watch these teams?

Regal Theatre

I failed to mention in recent “thoughts of Jamaica” my visit to the building that was once regal theater. My father-in-law jugged my memory this week. He mentioned being a part of the ‘ Chiney man’ posse that used to frequent Regal’s 1:00 pm matinee during the week. There was a ‘kickers’ (karate movie) showing at that time of the day.

The Safe Way – cold beer, wine, cigarettes and sodas

I don’t have a camera phones. How I wished I had one today. I am driving in a rough neighborhood and a store named “The Safe Way” caught my eye. The sign on the storefront is just pure irony. “The Safe Way – cold beer, wine cigarette and sodas”. 8-O

Jamaicanized Joke blames Education system…

Date: 12/19/07 Posted by: admin

I received the email joke below with the comments “This is hilarious and sad at the same time and shows the result of the current educational system in JA! “. Before I send anything off to others I normally like to do a quick search on yahoo , google and a few other hoax sites. I soon realized that this joke was “Jamaicanized”. I found a different version of this story on multiple American websites . Does it mean our education system does not need to improve…no…but we may be quick to judge…

More of my Rant about Christmas being called “Happy holidays”

I like this….

The following was written by Ben Stein and recited by him on CBS Sunday Morning Commentary.
————————————————-
I am a Jew, and every single one of my ancestors was Jewish. And it does not bother me even a little bit when people call those beautiful lit up, bejeweled trees, Christmas trees. I don’t feel threatened I don’t feel discriminated against. That’s what they are: Christmas trees.

It doesn’t bother me a bit when people say, “Merry Christmas” to me. I don’t think they are slighting
