It’s about 2 weeks since I last wrote anything on US politics. The last time I wrote about politics I said I agreed with Clinton that the giving Obama a “pillow”. Well they certainly took it away. I did get a few emails and comments about the post and why am I criticizing Obama. I sense the tone is if you are a black man you should not criticize Obama. In an earlier post I mentioned I don’t play the party lines. I don’t believe because I am black I must be a Democrat. I consider myself an independent thinker. If the person can do the job they get my vote. Ok, enough of my rambling…This week I had a conversation with a close black American friend. We discuss politics all the time. During our conversation I talked about many issues including Clinton destroying the Democratic party to gain power and McCain travelling to Iraq and not knowing that Iran is Shiite. We then started to discuss the Obama pastor issue and my feelings that it may never go away. He disagreed but then he made a statement that was really interesting. He said he could always come to me to hear the point of view of the White middle class Americans. I asked him why he believed this. He stated he could always come to me get an idea about what white America thinks about any issue on all the presidential candidates, especially Obama.
I often wondered why we don’t see more black and white couples in commercials or on magazine covers in the US. After reading/watching the controversy over the cover Vogue magazine cover with Lebron James and the Brazilian model Gisele I can see why many companies would stay way from casting a black and white couple. They just don’t want to have a PR nightmare. The splitting of hair and reading between the lines for racial overtones seem to be a constant when it involves black people and white people…I see nothing wrong with the cover shot.
I use to collect comics while growing up as a teenager in Jamaica. Having “muscles” to attract girls was the “in ting” then as it probably is now for teenagers. This Charles Atlas advertisement was appealing to me and many of my friends back then. A quick way to get muscles. Many of us would talk about this advertisement and our wish to “kick sand inna bwoy’s” face when we get muscles. Charles Atlas was a name many of my friends recognized with strength and salvation from a skinny body. I never ordered this product hence I never did get muscles and I am still “skinny”. I don’t know of anyone who actually ordered the product.
I am sure many of you who are facebook, linkedin or myspace members have been invited by friends to add a cool application for fun. I came across this application created for facebook to help with Blood donation. I like seeing applications that help others….
It’s amazing how things come back “full circle” in everything. Category search was dead but now it seems it may make a comeback with searchme.com. I also remember when transparent gif images were the rage and not they are pretty much “dead” as design has gone back to “squares and rectangles”.
