Wow…first it was the Bible in Patois. Now CVM announced they would be doing news in Patois…Sounds like a movement is on hand.

Each year after the NBA finals there is a “silence” in the US sports market for many. You can hear it on sport radio. These talk show have nothing to talk about. We the “cultured” sports fan (some may say elitist) don’t have this “silent” period. It so happens that the EURO cup starts to get “hot” (2nd round matches) right after the NBA finals. Then when the EURO cup is over Wimbledon starts to get “hot” and you see the best tennis in the world. Then right after that baseball starts to get “hot” and leads us right to NFL. This summer we have a bonus…the Olympics.
I clearly attribute my appreciation for all sports to my Jamaican upbringing. We got a little of everything on TV and also in PE class.
PS: I feel sorry the that Lindsay Davenport had her unfortunate knee injury and has to withdraw from Wimbledon 2008. She is a class act and one of my favorite women players.
Today the Miami Herald features Jamaica’s ability to produce some of the worlds best track athletes. The article discusses our achievements in the Olympics which is really good for small country…makes me proud.
There was in interesting article in the news today on how switching Languages can change personality. I think it is true as I have seen where Jamaicans are “twenging” as they try to be nice and when they get angry the “Jamaican” patois is the mode of expression. The study was done with Spanish speakers but it seems it could be applied to Jamaica patois.

Kwame Dawes wrote an interesting article in the Washington Post about HIV/AIDS in Jamaica. The story is mainly about a young lady who has HIV and was the poster girl for awareness in Jamaica. She got pregnant during the campaign and then life gets complicated. Check out the story…
A user in our forums posting the link to a site that tracks the incidents of crime in Jamaica using Google Maps. Very interesting.
The West Indies Bible Society of the West Indies has embarked on a project to translate an English Bible to Patois. A few years ago I may have thought this project was a waste. However as I mentioned in previous posts I have changed my views on Patois as a language. I say go for it…
