As I mentioned in an earlier blog that McCain would take credit for the “bail out/rescue plan”. The spin started right after the debate where many Republicans were saying a deal was set and it because McCain showed leadership and came back to the Hill. Even McCain was taking credit when he was confident the bill would pass…from hero to zero.
Does this whole thing seems like a set up by the Republicans. Call them “bad mind” to back-off the deal however it is great politics.
So who will save the bail-out…John McCain. The Republicans set the trap and as usual Democrats fall for it. By the end of the day there will be an agreement because McCain was able to get the Republicans in congress “in line”. He will fly to Mississippi looking like a hero.
Now the Democrats have the advantage but they will not take it.
Option 1. – Call a news conference right before the bail out meeting and ask the McCain and Obama stay out of the negotiation and go debate.
Option 2. – Allow the Republicans to present their plan and disagree with it. Now Obama has to play hero.
Democrats will not do any of this…they just don’t know how to play the game….
A few months ago I had a discussion with a radio personality about dancehall music. Our discussion was heated as he contended that Nadine Sutherland saw herself as a dancehall artist. He also contended that Beres Hammond is a dancehall artist. The reason this came back to me is I was listening to a Beres Hammond song this week. His argument is the dancehall beat makes you a dancehall artist. My argument was that I only considers artist who “chant” on the “mike” as dancehall artist. I beleive artists who clasiffy themselves as dancehall even though they are “singers” they are doing so to jump on the “dancehall” wagon. Maybe I am wrong but I just don’t see artist who sing “lovers rock” as dancehall.
Yesterday a video surfaces of Dallas Mavericks basketball player Josh Howard “dissing” the US national anthem. In the video he says “The Star Spangled Banner’ is going on right now. I don’t even celebrate that (expletive). I’m black.” The most interesting part was how he uses the “I’m black” term. It seems to infer that all black people do not celebrate the US national anthem. It is the sort of statement that starts stereotypes. That is another topic.
I was listening to a talk radio show and the white host, who normally defends black athletes against any criticisms, said he could not defend this. He then asked if any caller could defend this. I heard quiet a few black callers defend it with the “sins of the past” argument. None experience these “major” sins but this is how they defended him. In my opinion he has no defense. This is a millionaire athlete who is just dumb.
A friend passed on to me this Carl Lewis interview with Sport Illustrated. He clearly seems to have a problem with Jamaicans training in Jamaica. He seems to imply that we do not have strict or state of the art drug testing. Personally I think he should not say Jamaica “backward” with it’s drug testing till he visits.
Many of you may have seen the video of the “Vicious Hammer Attack on Subway”. What was stunning is that no one else helped. Earlier in the week before this attack came to light I was listening to a radio announcer explain why he will not come to defend someone else. He went to a little league game with his family. A parent started screaming at one of the teenage refs and berated him. He was upset with the way this parent was shouting at the teenager. His wife told him to stay out of it. No other person came to the defense of the teenager. He could not stand it anymore so he went over to the parent. He told him to stop. His wife left with the children because she was embarrassed. She was upset with him for getting involved. It is sad that society has come to this…
Two weeks ago I wrote about America’s “1 drop rule” and the complications of it etc. Well last week I was listening to a sports radio show and I was shocked by a “racial” complication. Before I tell the story let me give you a little background.
Robert Marve the quarterback for the University of Miami was suspended by the coach for the first game of the 2008 season. Ten months ago Marve was arrested by the police. The coach, Randy Shannon (black), had 10 months to tell him this but did not until a week before the game. His rule book states if he gets a call after midnight about any player “guilty or innocent” he would be suspended. The coach told the media he did not want Marve to be distracted while completing for the starting QB job.
Some fans where livid. One of these livid fans called a sports radio station I often listen to and berated the coach. The talk show host explained that he agreed with the coach and that distracting the player during camp would not have helped the heated quarterback competition. This went on for about 5 minutes. The host had the upper hand and his explanation of why a coach would wait do this seemed logical. That is when the fan went to draw the “race” card. I am going to try and paraphrase the discussion between an angry fan and the radio host.
Caller: The coach had no right to do this. He only did this because Marve is white. If it was a black player he would have let it go because it is one of the “boys” in the hood.”
Host: Sir,do you realize that you are contradicting yourself,
Caller: He would not let a black player off so easy.
Host: Sir, do you realize that Marve is black.
Caller: (Silence)
Host: Marve’s father is Eugene Marve who played in the NFL.
The caller hung up. Like the caller I was in shock. I always thought Marve was “white”. I am sure many other people did too.
