Read a story today on Caribbean Nations lobbying in Washington. Seems like Jamaica did not do any lobbying in Washington in 2008. With the attention the Caribbean as gotten in the previous 8 years it makes sense. Not sure if the Caribbean will get any attention soon.
As I read this story, about a Jamaican lady caught in Mortgage fraud who fled Florida to hid in Jamaica, a question came to mind. Why people think they can hide in Jamaica especially when the US is looking for them. Imagine if there was this “type” of will to catch other criminals in Jamaica!!!
I am trying to understand why many in the media is saying Miss California answer to gay marriage is controversial. Maybe it was not the answer they wanted to hear but I don’t think it is controversial. It is her opinion and seems based on the marriage amendment votes in November the majority of Californians agree with her. Did it cost her the crown? I think it contributed to her loss. However lets not kid ourselves. This may not be a bad thing for her. She will get her 5 minutes of fame and will probably be a future Fox News contributor. I would not be surprised if in 4 years people remember her and not remember the actually winner.
It is ironic that the day after the Jamaican Gleaner writes a story on the increase in Canadian tourists to Jamaica a Canadian plane is hijacked in Montego Bay. Maybe the hijacker read this story and say $$$ signs.
I was shocked and impressed by the intelligence of the rapper Pit Bull. I heard him on a radio interview. I have never listened to his music but I know who he is.I know you can’t judge a book by it’s cover but the rappers today just don’t help. I guess as I get old I am getting sucking into the “this generation does not get it” argument. I know I should not compare the rap music of today to LL, Whodini, Run D MC, Kool Moe D, Heavy D and the other early rappers. But I do.
As many of you know I am a Miami Heat fan. Last year we drafted second and took Michael Beasley at 19 year old freshman. He is a scorer but also a comedian. He is a bit rough around the edges but these interviews are refreshing because of his honesty and his childlike responses.
Truth Wins Out, a gay rights group from California, has launched a campaign asking people in the USA to boycott Jamaica and Jamaican products. They are even using logo similar to Red Stripe beer. Not that I agree with the boycott but I think that the use of the Red Stripe logo is smart. It is recognizable and is a popular beer. The question is will Red Stripe sue them for using the logo. Let’s say they do. Will be it be a trap to sue? Will Red Stripe be dragged down in the media with investigations of concerts they sponsored with reggae artists deemed as “homophobic”? Will the employment practices of Red Stripe be questioned as discriminatory because there may be no gay employees? Maybe I am “over the top” but companies today have to be very careful the tables are turned on them even when they are right.
