Many of you remember the scandal last year over sand being stolen from a beach in Trelawny and put on another beach allegedly by a hotelier. Well this is not limited to Jamaica. It is happening in Mexico.

With the rumors of Air Jamaica’s possible sale and a name change I was alerted of the importance of souvenirs. Last week a relative showed me their Air Jamaica “stuff” that they will be keeping in pristine condition as a souvenir if the airline is sold. Typical when I get the Air Jamaica fans I give them to my children to play and I use bags. Now I am re-thinking things. I need to get some Air Jamaica “stuff” to keep, even though I don’t know what the future brings.

I heard part of Gov. Palin’s speech this past weekend. She took some nice shots at just about everyone in a very subtle way. One of those shots was at Hollywood and “hunting/ant-second amendment”. She mentioned that Hollywood would use “use these delicate, tiny, very talented celebrity starlets” to their anti-hunting and anti-second amendment point across to the public. I think she is right about what Hollywood does to influence the culture. I have seen it on TV and in the movies. The hammer you with their view of the world until you become “numb” to thier point of view and cave in. I gave up watching some TV shows that I loved because I saw an agenda being pushed. They would right a script that tugged at your heart with actors that give a magnificent performance.
Will Hollywood push the anti-hunting and anti-second amendment agenda Gov. Palin mentioned in her speech? I don’t know. But she certainly hits the nail on the head on how they normally push an agenda.

I frequently get emails or see comments on the site about Rastafari being displayed in a “bad light” therefore it reflects on all Jamaicans. Three the comments/emails this week struck a cord because of the pattern I have seen over the years. People who are not Jamaican or did not grow up in Jamaica assume that every Jamaican know about Rastafari or must defend it.
I am fortunate to know a “little bit” due to research and discussions with close family members who are “true Rastafarians” however that average Jamaican does not have a clue. With that said how can they expect the average non-rastafarian Jamaican to respond when they ask if you are offended as a Jamaican because of a Rasta image being used for something deemed as “unclean”? What if you think Rastafari is a cult are you obligated as a Jamaican to defend it? Many non-Jamaicans think so.
