The school day usually begins at 8:00 in the morning and lasts until 2:00 pm or 2:30 pm in the afternoon. Some schools may have extra lessons for students who wish to improve on their studies.

School children in Jamaica have several vacations

They get: one week during Easter, 3 months in the summer, 3 days National Heroes week, 2 Labor day, 2 weeks during Christmas and the new years.

All children take part in some type of sports at school. Track and Field and other sports such as football (soccer), cricket, swimming, field hockey, tennis, netball, and basketball are played.

Some of the games kids play when they are dandy shandy. One of the favorite board games played by Jamaican children is "lou do".

As in many countries today one of the craze of children in Jamaica is electronic games played on the television screen.
