ummm kaylah ur an idiot american food sucks....jamaican food is da best!!!!!!!! so nobody is gonna get sick for three days unless da american dat cookin da food dont cook it good...JAMAICANS R DA BEST COOKS EVER AND DA ONLY WAY UR MEAL IS GONNA TASTE GOOD IS IF A JAMAICAN PREPARE IT ....SO AMERICANS DONT ATTEMPT TO COOK JAMAICAN FOOD U WONT SUCCEED U'LL JUS FAIL LIKE KAHLAH N BE SICK FOR THREE DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK U :)
Oh dear Kaylah - first thing is first NO FOOD IS NASTY - IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT THEN THAT IS YOUR CHOICE. Secondly when was natural food (that is cooked properly) bad for you. if you actually know about ackee then you would know that you cannot open the outer shell of the ackee it has to be opened natually. Also this thing about getting sick in 3 days? Your constitution must be tough! for ackee to take 3 days for you to be sick. A healthy person eating ackee that is not ready would be sick in hours.
Jamaican Girl I understand where your coming from as I am English of Jamaican decent and in general Americans cannot cook, that is why there is such a high level of obescity in America compared to Jamaica. therefore who's more healthy Americans or Jamaicans. Tbey need to take action elsewhere and leave the lovely ackee alone as it not only looks beautiful, it also taste devine
Kaylah! A wah do yuh..you soun like a mad smaddy. Go back pon yuh meds dem...serious ting
To the Nov.2010 comments - I am Puerto Rican (married to a Jamaican) and I am GOOD at cooking Jamaican food (escoviche, ackee and salt fish, oxtail, fritters, festivals, codfish balls, plantain tarts, rice n' peas and the list goes on & on). And i have NEVER gotten sick by my cooking or eating of Jamaican dishes EVER. So don't be so ignorant insulting food when you know American food is NOT the healthiest either. And as Jamaican gurl said, not everyone can cook Jamaican food. It is BEST when cooked by a Jamaican.
This recipe is most intriguing. I have NEVER known Jamaicans to use Ackee for anything else but their national dish! My parents are from Wait-A-Bit, Trewlany and the mere idea of using ackee for something else is insulting! I will try to persuade them!
As for Kaylah. You sound most distasteful in your comment. How ignorant of you to insult the food of a nation. Granted, everbody is entitled to their opinion--ignorant or not but you have taken it to the next level. You will find no one here to agree or co sign with you. Because MOST smart people come to websites that they like and dont bother with the ones that they dislike. Your claims are unwarranted as you provide no proof or example of this alleged sickness...and further more...I will take my callaloo, boiled yams, coco, dasheen, susumba, tamarind and appleton rum over American cuisine ANYDAY!!!
That person, kaylah, sounds very ignorant....doesn't know what she is talking about. The only way an ackee dish may make you sick is if you use ackees that have been picked before they they should be, AND EVERY JAMAICAN KNOWS THAT!!!!! I have never heard anyone dissing Jamaican cooking. Everyone I know just love it. Also, I have never known anyone to die from eating ackees....it is part of the national dish of Jamaica and Jamaicans have been eating it for I don't know how long. This "kaylah" person doesn't have a clue what she is talking about.....thinking Jamaicans prefer American cooking. Hahahahaha
So eating triple cheeseburgers are so healthy, eating fried this and that. Its all how you prepare your foods. Jerk Chicken is healthy with lots of delicious spices. Thers are tons of Jamaican foods that are healthy and pleasing to the taste budes. So as far as making you sick in three days thats ridiciolous. There is always a hater in the mix.
To Kaylah
I am Canadian Born and Raised, and married to a Jamaican. Have been and will continue to eat Jamaican Food. Ackee, I will agree is an aquired taste and can make you sick if you do not cook it correctly. I personally have not gotten sick on any Jamaican food in the 25 plus years I have been eating it. However, on McDonald, KFC, A&W, which has made me sick many of times. So its unfortunate that you seemed to have had a bad experience with some Jamaican food. You just had a bad cook.
Kaylah Don't blame Jamaican food for ur lack of knowledge to cooking. I have never gotten sick from eating Jamaican food.Has to what Jamiacan girl said it is way better when a Jamaican do it. I am from Jamican and I know the food is way heatier than some of these american dishes you guys call good food. Satistic shows that american or the fatest ppl in the world so I dont understand How The nature Foods from Jamaica make anyone sick or is unheathly in anyway..
Before I begin my response to the ignorance of KAYLAH: are you of Jamaican parentage? If not then your reply is self explanatory. If so, then shame on you. But then again, you weren't raised to know any better. Young lady, you have not only disrespected my nationality's food culture and tradition but EVERY JAMAICAN WORLDWIDE!! You're probably used to drinking the tap and/or bottled water that has fluoride calcifying your pineal gland which would explain your lack of thought process that made you reply utter rubbish. FACT: not only would you become ill from eating (green unripe or) ripe ackee that has not been cleaned and/or cooked properly, u'd surely be DEAD before 3 days has passed. I like how you mentioned not to eat any Jamaican food, but not mention exactly what made you ill for 3 days. You probably ate something with coconut milk that went sour(as is happens if the dish it's used in isn't cooled before refrigeration and then re-heated). I think you should have done your own investigation from where you ate before you came onto this website, being small minded and rude. I am currently in Jamaica and from here forward, every time I eat a meal I'll be laughing at you....yes laughing at you. I have driven from east to west coast and have yet to see a "golden arch". So you go ahead and enjoy your american fat food, yes I said FAT food. Everything in your american food HAS FAT IN IT! Every Jamaican dish is a healthy dish, EVRY DISH...look it up and compare to your thanksgiving dinner. And remember.....the highest obesity rate in the world is in your 'america'.
KNOWLEDGE IS POWERFUL ISN'T IT?
kaylah u aint got a clue if u think deep fried junk food is better then jamaican food if u were sick its because u or the person that cooked for u cant cook dont blame the food blame the chef
