Ms. Dulcie Sey: “Dem No Tek No Pride Ina Wey Dem Do!”

Published Nov 30, 2008

Ow are hall a uno folks dere doin? Well me an Ms. Precious daughta was a watch de Wul news an it get me so blinkin vex you see. De whole wul is inna a real “roonkus-poonkus” state. De school bus driver dem a lef de pickney dem miles away from dem destination and de Teacher dem a run way from de children dem.
What is gweying on ? But see here? De sad part is, it is appening everywhere. All ova de wul de peple dem gone mad. Mad, mad, like chad!
Just cople weeks ago….The mini-van driver no lef likkle Rowan Simpson down at de Market cause him was bawling and carrying on. Is a good ting sey im madda did give im a piece a wan cell phone fi cyall Ms. Dulcie. Rowan call me, “Ms. Dulci, come quick! De mini-van driver lef me!”
Fi him Granmodda used to be mi good dressmaker, so anyting dem want, me halways oblige, you knoe.
Me haffi drag on mi head-tie and mi slippers and hask Missa Fowler fi use im Post Hoffice motobike fi go get de bwoy. Yu eva see mi dyin trial! Ms. Dulcie can’t pedal a tricycle much less a motobike. De whole way, a waz prayin, den de rain start fall, one of mi slippers drop off inna de mud. Me nevva have no time fe stop an find it. I doughn’t even think I would have. Cause de rain drips was coming down heavy. By de time I get to the city, the sun was shining like heverything was halright. Hevrybady was a look pon my like me hescape from de Mad house.
When me get de, me cyan’t fine Rowan. I was so nervous and hupset far him. Wey dis chile could a wandar hoff to?
Me look up de street, Me look dung de street…..No Rowan.
Me start fe chat to meself….“Dis is what dese people encourage, dem halways endangering dese children till simady runway wid dem, den dem a call de troops, Jesus Christ an de whole army. Lawd God! Wey me a go tell dis pickney Mumma!”
Me tan up de fe bout fifteen minutes den me see one likle bwoy come from behind wan sno-cone truck, “Ms. Dulcie! Ms. Dulcie!”
A start to look cross you see, a say, “What you doin over dere?”
Him ansa, “Dis nice man buy me sno cone.”
Mu jus tun to im an sey, “Wey you knoe im from?”
“Nowhere,”
“Den ow you knoe im nice, ‘cause im gey you wan sno cone?”
Me just kinely tek wan tropence hout a me crocus bag a ge de man, ‘cause me dough knoe what him angle could be, but hall me knoe…..me no wan fe be responsible.
You knoe all dis hexcitement mek me tink bout wen Hingrid did likkle. Me nevva trust nobody fe bring my pickney ome to me. Dem people out dere sometimes doughn’t put no pride in what dey are doing. If it was dere children dey would haf a difrent mindset, but dey juss cyan’t mek de connection.
Me and Rowan just heng a left and was back on our way with Missa Fowler “may or may not reach bike” Thank God we mek it back to the homestead halright!
Has far as de mini-van driva is concerned Ms. Dulcie just wants him fi knoe, “Shame on you!“…..What would yu Parson think? or What would Jesus do?
Tink about dese questions de next time you feel like leavin a likkle child lonely widdout a sense of direkcion.

De pass few weeks Ms. Dulcie got so many lettars from all you worried parents hout dere, so dis month’s article is far uno. Nutting in de wul is more important dan transporting yu children. Hif you hafi do it yuself. Den de folks who are accustomed to doin it will realize that dere jobs are extremely important.
We multi-task hevryting in hour society, people sometimes tink our children are one of the tings that we multi-task. Dis is a chance for parents to say “Hey! We might be busy, but we payin attention!”

Till Next time,
This is Dulcimer Peaches Hortencia Robothom saying Take care.
