Poem: Bongos

Published Jan 23, 2012

The revolutions and marches of the '60's

haven't changed much, since all the strong

civil rights leaders have come and gone,

A new era in America has been born,

Racism is at an all time high, not just

from caucasians, but from other

minorities who would rather depreciate

their competition, taking the spotlight

off their incompetencies,

such as their broken english

and lack of ettiquette,

Treating Caribbeans poorly with their negative attitudes

of "You get what you get, and you dare not get

upset !"

They label West Indians as "Bongos"

only because they will not accept

their rude, crude and lewd modes of

actions,

The other minorities try to bring them down

by discounting their heritage, and resolutions,

If they cannot be controlled and treated

as if they were slaves,

Their strength of character and fortitude

gets misconstrued as children who misbehave,

They are called "Bongos" with attitudes

and are banded from receiving accolades,

The naysayers will taunt, haunt, harrass

and endanger the lives of those who

refuse to conform to their social agendas

and ways of living,

They want Islanders to turn their backs

on their upbringing without any misgivings,

The pride, and stociousness of foreigners' lives

creates curiosity and spies,

If they aren't shouting their most, deepest

personal desires from the rooftop,

The labels "Bongos", "Hos" and "Giggolos"

gets slapped on to their backs, making them subject to all

forms of disrespect and rebellious acts.
