Rulers Under Scrutiny - Poems in the series "The Poetic Times: Revelation of Injustices"
Published Nov 5, 2012A Ruler of a country in modern times,
never really knows how to be,
If they are always present,
They are vacationing on the Tax Payers' money,
If they have too much to say,
they are full of of grandstanding and rehetoric,
Yet, most expect them to act like carnival ponies,
preening and participating in magical tricks,
The people expect inhuman results in short spaces
of time, as if suggesting their Rulers turn into
hoodlums or purveyors of crime,
When they rule with an iron fist and are stalworth and strong,
The people revolt, putting an end to their lives with battery
and revolutions,
Some constituents may smile and wave and never seem to misbehave,
Yet, in the deep, dark, recesses of their minds,
They collaborate in unison, "It's poison time!"
