Where did my Jamaicaness Go?

I've left my birthplace so long,

That sometimes I forget where I belong,

Life in the States does its best to make you feel out of place,

You try on characters and tell yourself you're going through a phase,

Where did my Jamaicaness go?

I do love Jamaica so,

Perhaps its the negative images that are portrayed,

About us "coconuts" and our yam eating ways,

Sure, I'm from a Third World Country,

We pride ourselves from keeping our children hungry,

Mottos and proverbs give us aspirations,

We're not trying to go Hollywood or create sensations,

I guess my Jamaicaness is alive afterall,

Sometimes its not evident in my mixed-up, mixed-up drawl.
