Emperor Haile Selassie's Denial Of Being The Messiah

Published May 25, 2003

Rastafarians worship Emperor Haile Selassie despite his many denials of being God.

Listen to Emperor Haile Selassie denial of deity in an interview in Canada in 1967 aboard the royal train.

Below is a portion of the transcript of the first personal radio interview granted by Emperor Haile Selassie. CBC reporter Bill McNeil conducted the interview with Emperor Haile Selassie while in Canada 1967 aboard the Royal train.

Questioned by Bill McNeil: "there are millions of Christians throughout the world, your Imperial Majesty, who regard you as the reincarnation of Jesus Christ."

Selassie's answer: "I have heard of that idea. I also met certain Rastafarians. I told them clearly that I am a man, that I am mortal, and that I will be replaced by the oncoming generation, and that they should never make a mistake in assuming or pretending that a human being is emanated from a deity."

Narrator: But, despite this clear declaration, millions of Ethiopians still believe that he is the reincarnation of Jesus Christ.

(Please Note the Narrator made a categorical mistake. Millions of Ethiopians do not consider Selassie to be the reincarnation of Jesus Christ. Ethiopia is one of the oldest Christian nations. In fact The Ethiopian Orthodox Church is said to be one of the oldest churches in the world and actually may be the first established church. - See Acts 8:27-39.)

Zavea, Selassie is a man, nothing more and nothing less, he is no messiah at all. He is not propesied about in the scripture in any place, that is a lie perpertuated by false rastafarianism. Jesus is coming back to rule, his first appearance was to bring salvation to man and not to conquer. Show one contradiction in the New Testament? What you need to do is repent of your idolatry and turn to Christ, who Selassie believed in mind you. If you dont know in this interview, Selassie talked about CHRISTmas. Yes he hailed Christ as LORD and GOD. REPENT and BELIEVE!

you clearly do not know what you are talking about brother...you read to many books. Haile Selassie started a coptic Christian Church where you had to denounce that he was the Savior and Haile Sellassie was a Christian who followed Jesus and whome he clearly stated was the Messiah.

Thanx for highlighting this as most brethrens and sistrens are out there praising Hail Selassie I as God/JAH.Rasta as a way of life is devine in itself. But when it comes to giving praises for salvation and eternity,Hail Selassie I is not the right person for those praises.JAH/The Creator/The God of salvation,The Mighty in battle,The Invisible One, The Omnipotent One, is the only One worth of such praises. Haile Selassie had the divinity of a true Christian which cannot be compared to any living being on earth. As such the Rastafarians call him God incarnate.Jah bless.

Look, here in these most tumultuous times in history, it would be most appropriate for the almighty to save the best for last. Moses, Elijah, Jesus etc. came and went. Atleast, that is what I read and hear. I get my knowledge through words written by men. Man being imperfect cannot be fully relied upon which causes me to question what they say. I never saw Jesus Christ, so logically I must have an element of doubt about them. But you see HIM? I can see him on film, I can read direct quotes, listen to interviews of him, even talk to people who met him. So there is no doubt about him being a real live person. Hey, I don't want no fantasy God. Rasta don't deal with childish fantasy promulgated by people who want to keep us blind. It's funny how people read, but they don't understand what they read. Their lack of discernment causes them to fantasize that Selassie said he was not God. Every part of the Bible says that he is God. He cautioned the world that man cannot emenate from a diety, that he is not the reincarnation of Jesus. All of this I agree with. There is not a thing that HIM said that I don't agree with. There is nothing he ever said or did that contradicts my faith in HIM. He is the Almighty God that Jesus came to proclaim. I put all my eggs in Selassie's basket. I declare HIM as the greatest of all time. Anyone, who disagrees with this post is saying in effect that the Bible is a lie. After all, where does it say he is not God?
