    Kitchen Countertops

Looking to replace my countertops...actually the entire kitchen, but that's another thread.

I am not in love with granite. Partially due to the speckled way it looks and because of the required maintenance.

Am looking for alternatives....formica and such are out of the question.

Granite counter tops are so overdone and so last season. (As are under mount kitchen sinks ... but you didn't ask my opinion)

Formica is a brand name for laminate counter tops. You are really limiting yourself by dismissing laminates. So many great new options are available these days with laminates.

Silestone/quartz counter tops may be one option.

Laminate countertops and flooring all seem to deteriorate too quickly.

I heard quartz prices are rising rapidly. Maybe Quartz is the new Grante.

    my fave is carrara

but not practical for most peeps

    marble
    quartz
    soapstone
    honed granite
    glass
travertine (some of these don't have the specks etc that granite has)

    a little different

    butcher block
    concrete
    recycled materials
    stainless steel

I did some shopping around this weekend, and took a liking to butcher block. Dunno though, have to do more research on how it stands up against bacteria. Also the maintenance, and what exactly happens as it ages.

    Gotta look up Carrara.
