In & Around Downtown Toronto...

One of my goals for the summer is to do a foot tour of Toronto's downtown core. Toronto is a splendid city with a mix of modern and old architecture, and it is an appreciation of the latter that provoked my interest in discovering this part of the city. So, with my trusty camera in hand, I set out on the first of what should be a number of tours over the next several weeks. Here's hoping you will enjoy some of the images captured during my odyssey, and if you have never been to TO, a very special 'welcome'

What better place to start than with Toronto's fourth and current City Hall! This local landmark with its curved towers that wrap around an elevated pod-like Council Chambers is set in "a massive public square" with a reflecting pool / skating rink.

This pic of the reflecting pool was taken from several floors up on the Sheraton Hotel across the road.

    At Yonge & Dundas...

This is one talented guy! Great chalkwork on the sidewalk and he had quite the crowd checking out his work.

This one simply blew my mind with how detailed it was!

Yep, the guy had two big white buckets collecting donations in, and after seeing the great work, I couldn't help but throw my contribution in.

A couple blocks up the road is the 'infamous' Zanzibar. 'Nuff said...

...and a couple blocks down the road is the rather elegant Elgin theater.

    TTC (Public Transit) Street Car...

These still uses electricity and are connected to powerlines by an extension at the back (see pic below). Some feel that these streetcars should be retired as they run on rails and are a traffic hazard. Others feel however that they are a part of the city's heritage, and should remain for as long as possible.
