The Blue Mountain Project

Published Apr 28, 2005
The Blue Mountain Project-Main

The Blue Mountain Project, a not for profit organization dedicated to educating and empowering indigenous populations of developing countries, is now offering a newly designed vacation/volunteer package. Adventure seekers can travel to Hagley Gap, a small rural village in Jamaica’s Blue Mountains, where they will engage in an all-inclusive volunteer experience. The new Service Learning Projects are designed to introduce local culture while utilizing the variety of volunteer’s skills to improve community lifestyle. All profits are used to fund a health clinic and educational projects.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to explore life beyond Jamaica’s many vacationer resorts. They may stay a few days or a few weeks, although extended stay options are encouraged. Volunteers have their choice of lodging ranging from host families, tent camping, and dorm style housing with other volunteers. Itineraries are flexible and scheduled around meals, leisure times, and planned day trips.

In exchange for immersion into the Jamaican culture, volunteers agree to participate in a Service Learning Project. Service Learning Projects are community-enhancing workshops designed to improve the living conditions among the people of Hagley Gap. Projects vary with community demand and offer opportunity for volunteers to observe and experience ongoing development. Current projects include Wellness Clinic Renovations, Day Camps, and Clinical First Aid*.

*CPR certificate must be current and present.

Total cost per day/night stay is $49.00 USD. Program costs include meals, accommodations, and island transportation from arrival at the Kingston Airport.

Registration forms, photos and further information are accessible through the BMP website at: www.bluemountainproject.org or email bluemountainproject@yahoo.com

. The local contact is Sarah Beamer at (260)571-0128.
