Barrington Levy was one of a handful of singers who could compete
with the DJs in terms of popularity in the Jamaican Dancehall
of the late 70s - early 80s. Born in 1964, Levy hailed from Kingston
and got his start with the group the Mighty Multitudes. As a
solo artist he would become second only to Yellowman in terms
of his Dancehall following. Fact is...his staying power left
even King Yellow behind. Many of the more modern Jamaican DJs
have taken the opportunity to record a combination with Barrington
Levy and as a result his star has continued to shine right into
the 21st century.
