Buju Banton - 1 Minute Jamaican Music Biography
Published Jun 26, 2004
Buju Banton was born in Kingston in 1973 and, hot on the heals
of Shabba Rank's impactful success, Buju quickly became a spokesman
for the Ghetto Youth. Rather average while learning his craft
during his early teens on the smaller sound systems, by 1991
Banton began to really make his mark. The 'voice of the moment',
he was in jeopardy of fading into obscurity...of just presenting
the typical Dancehall fare...when the death of his close friend
Pan Head turned his attention toward a more important calling.
A pronounced spirituality has propelled Buju Banton to absolute
superstardom both at home and abroad.
