Derrick Morgan - 1 Minute Jamaican Music Biography
Published Jun 23, 2004
Derrick Morgan launched his career back in 1956 when he won
a talent contest over the likes of Owen Grey, Jackie Edwards,
Eric 'Monty' Morris and Hortense Ellis. He was 15. Derrick began
recording back in the Boogie days. His first sizable success
was the classic 'Fatman'. Derrick's association with his friend
Prince Buster is legendary as were his vocal duets with Patsy.
The much celebrated 'feud' between Morgan and Buster was pretty
much a laugh to them...and a financial bonanza as well. But the
fans took the musical/lyrical confrontations too seriously and
finally the Jamaican government of the day felt it necessary
to step in and asked the two of them to cool it. A super-star
virtually from the word go...Derrick Morgan has made his mark...BIG
TIME...for close to 50 years.
