The Abyssinians - 1 Minute Jamaican Music Biography
Published Jun 23, 2004
The Abyssinians, Bernard Collins alongside Lynford and Donald
Manning, created a spiritual sound that was totally unique for
its time. Not influenced nearly as much as many of their contemporaries
were by the Americanized version of soul, their vocals were brilliant.
Perhaps not the most prolific group, their high standard was,
and is, their legacy. Even though Coxone Dodd decided against
releasing their classic 'Satta Massa Gana' when it was originally
recorded back in 1969, they managed to rise above that conservatism
and made their mark...their way.
