Listen the History of Jamaican Music: Beres Hammond

Published Aug 1, 2002

Beres Hammond...
Beres Hammond started out singing R & B influenced songs and also enjoyed some limited success with the vocal group Zap Pow. In fact Beres spent quite a period of time 'paying his dues' before he became Reggae music's premier male vocalist. Donovan Germain's coupling of Bere's voice with dancehall stars like Tony Rebel, Buju Banton and Cutty Ranks, introduced Beres to a whole new audience...and they LOVED him. 'What One Dance Can Do', 'Tempted to Touch', and 'Putting Up a Resistance' really cemented his position as the man with 'THAT' voice. After paying the cost to be the Boss, Beres Hammond has ruled Jamaica's airwaves, sound systems, bashments and parties like no other for much of the past 10 years. Only Gregory Isaacs, Dennis Brown, Freddie McGregor, and more recently, Glen Washington, offer[ed] any real challenge. He is THE Jamaican vocalist of the digital age and it's easy to see he means it when he sings...'Music is Life'. Listen Now
