Arthur Wint School Mission Trip Fundraising Event Post Release - Orlando

Published Apr 5, 2007

The Arthur Wint School Fundraising event themed 'Fundraising Frenzy...Making the Mission Move' held on 3/25 in Orlando to benefit the Arthur Wint School located in Lucea, Hanover, Jamaica was a very successful event.

Coordinators of the event, Lois Dunbar and Sandy Isaacs, were pleased with the overall results of this fundraiser event based on the turnout, the number of school supplies and classroom materials contributed by folks to the cause, and the apparent wonderful time enjoyed by all who attended.

Leroy Smithson and his wife Marlene, owners of the Jam Rock Caribbean Cafe located in Kissimmee where the event was held, worked extremely hard to service the needs of the guest attendees of this special event, which served such a huge purpose! Their fixings of jerk chicken, curry chicken, pepper steak, rice and peas, and an unbelieveable blend of 'Jam Rock Cafe cole slaw' complete with fountain drinks and a sample glass of wine, helped to heighten the celebration. Added to this was the very special rendition which a captive audience received when Pauline Small, sang some 'soulful gospel songs' which left the guests in awe of her terrific display of talent!

Caribbean View TV who were there to capture elements of the fundraiser event, that aired on Brighthouse Channel 21 recently. They portrayed some of the wonderful aspects of this event. Donna Reid was also present at the event (Uptown Top Rankin' song singer) in person. It's been several years since that popular song hit the airwaves, but DJ Charlie Brown 'brought it on' and added to the special memories connotated with this song.

The Arthur Wint School Mission has attracted significant individual, business, organization and community help in various respects. Involvement has come from companies such as Harcourt Brace who donated and shipped 3 barrels of books to the students at the Arthur Wint School, Quik Ship Caribbean Services (formerly Findlay's Shipping) will be shipping all the classroom supplies and materials collected at no cost to Jamaica. For those of you who ship items to the Caribbean on a regular basis you know that this is a business with true heart! The many collection points which have been established with local Caribbean businesses in Orlando such as Caribbean One Stop, Mark's Caribbean Cuisine, Nev's Caribbean Shops, Negril's Flavors of Jamaica in Winter Park, FiWe Restaurant, Jam Rock Caribbean Cafe, Personal Training Gym, and Tutone Tony's Body Shop, coupled with those in the Tampa area such as Caribbean Delites and Florida Realty Assocs, joined by Cooper City Church of God in South Florida have all contributed to the overall success of this mission.

Folks are encouraged to continue to get involved and 'Make the Mission Move'.......Support is welcomed!

Contact Sandy Isaacs @ (321) 439-5572 for more information re the Mission Trip scheduled for July 10-17.
