First Baptist Church Of Ossining To Host Dedication Service For New Consul General

Published Mar 28, 2008

NEW YORK (JIS): Tuesday, March 25, 2008 - A special service of dedication for the Hon. Geneive Brown Metzger, newly appointed Consul General of Jamaica in New York City, will take place on Sunday, April 13, 2008 at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Ossining, New York.

The church is located at 1 Church Street, Ossining, NY, 10562. Host pastor, Rev. Gordon S. Anderson will be the chief celebrant. Mrs. Brown Metzger and husband, Dr. Stephen Metzger are parishioners at the First Baptist Church of Ossining, NY, since 2005.

The dedication service comes six weeks after taking office and provides the constituents of Northern New York and Westchester County with their first official meeting with the new Consul General.

The Hon. Geneive Brown Metzger took office on March 3, 2008, succeeding Dr. Basil K. Bryan who served as Consul General of Jamaica in New York from April 1998 to September 2007.

The service in Westchester County is the second in what will be an ongoing series of similar engagements for the new Consul General, allowing her to meet with a wider cross-section of the Jamaican constituency in the pivotal Tri-State area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, and in the shortest possible time.

On Sunday, April 6, 2008, Consul General Brown Metzger will be the guest of honour at the regular morning worship service at the St. Monica’s Episcopal Church in Hartford, Connecticut, the spiritual home for the first wave of contracted migrant workers from the Caribbean region to the Northeast USA, nearly sixty years ago.

During the month of May and barring out of town commitments, Mrs. Brown Metzger will attend regular morning worship services in New York City and New Jersey, offering that it’s the right way to start her stewardship as Jamaica’s first citizen in the state of New York.

“I am very much looking forward to greeting each one of you at the service and to praying for our nation and all of its leaders,” noted Consul General Brown Metzger.

Patrons attending the April 13, dedication service in Ossining, NY, are being asked to be seated by 10:50 am. The church offers free parking.
