JN Group Employees To Celebrate Jamaica 50Published Jul 10, 2012
As the nation celebrates its 50th Independence Anniversary, employees at Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) will also conduct a JN Jamaica 50 Campaign, an internal activity that will engage members of staff at the building society, and the subsidiary companies in the JN Group.
“This is an important anniversary for Jamaicans at home and abroad; and, we at Jamaica National will do our part,” Earl Jarrett, JNBS General Manager,” declared, noting that, “This independence year is one that we should all mark with pride in our combined achievements.”
In his address at the formal launch ceremony at the JNBS Half-Way-Tree headquarters, in Kingston, on June 28, Mr. Jarrett told employees that it was the beginning of a series of events that will count down to Independence Day on August 6.
He pointed out that Jamaica had grown, achieving significant milestones, beyond its vaunted athletics prowess. “The country’s advances in education, health and communications has been hard won and should not be taken for granted,” he maintained.
Stressing that Jamaica National recognizes the significance of this national milestone and is proud to be one of the global sponsors of the Jamaica 50 celebrations, he said, “The Society has also made tremendous strides in the past 50 years, and we are happy to demonstrate this through our own commemoration.”
The JN Jamaica 50 Campaign will be implemented by the JN Group Human Resource Development (GHRD) Department, and its main feature will be a ‘Fiwi Kulcha on Display’ competition.
“This cultural competition will invite branches, money shops, departments and units to form teams to display cultural, social, economic, religious or other significant themes from the nation’s history, in public areas of their locations,” Maximilian Campbell, JN Group Human Resource Development Executive, outlined.
Mr. Campbell explained that teams will be provided with funds to assist in the creation of their displays, and representatives of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) would be invited to judge each exhibit. In addition, Friday August 3 will be designated as “Culture Day” and JN Group employees will be encouraged to wear Jamaican colours and other traditional fashions.
“We will close that day with an entertainment programme titled ‘Culturama’ that will highlight some of our most talented JN employees,” he noted.
Dorett Thaxter, Marketing and Public Relations Director of the JCDC, endorsed the JN Jamaica 50 Campaign, and commended JN Group HRD for the initiative.
“The JCDC is very happy to collaborate with you on this campaign,” Ms. Thaxter said. “Your objectives and work, are very much in line with the JCDC, because we try to preserve, unearth and showcase our culture.”
Jamaica National is also a partner in the Meet Jamaica 2012 programme, which seeks to take full advantage of the high level of interest in Jamaican athletics and all things Jamaican, to promote Jamaican goods and services in the lead up to the Games of the 30th Olympiad in London, July 27 to August 12.
