Jamaican Diaspora Southern United States E-Bulletin - January 2008

Published Jan 10, 2008

Dear Fellow Jamaicans and Friends of Jamaica:

Thanks be to God for another year of life and blessing. I would like to thank you for receiving these monthly updates with an open mind and heart and becoming more engaged in your community in a manner that uplifts the quality of life of your family, business, or organization. Since 2006, it has been our goal, along with volunteer leadership around the region, to enhance our overall communication with our various communities and with each other. I firmly believe that without basic communication and sharing of information we cannot further the process our community development.

In 2008, we must continue to be deliberate in enhancing the communication among our different organizations, especially those of mutual interests. We must also continue to engage other supportive organizations within your respective communities that may provide needed resources or have similar challenges and pursuits (e.g. NAACP, Urban League, other Caribbean community organizations, etc.). As you may have noticed, we have tried to promote the action words of CONNECT, STRENGTHEN, ACT, and CELEBRATE. In this spirit, last year we pursued greater CONNECTIONS. For 2008, we will pursue a process of STRENGTHENING our capacity.

In this regard, we are asking all organizations to provide a summary of your organization’s mission, goals, best practices, key events/programs and activities for the year, and a list of some of your organizational needs. Please see the attached form for completion. You may fax (786-777-0174) or email (info@marlonhill.com) this form back at your earliest convenience on or before January 31, 2008. Once we have gathered as much information as possible, we will forward a spread sheet of all activities (confirmed or proposed) to assist with avoiding as many conflicts as possible in the calendar.

I would like to wish you continued prosperity and blessings for 2008. Let’s inspire each other to be greater in 2008.

CONNECT. STRENGTHEN. ACT. CELEBRATE.
