Jamaican Pair Wins World Domino Championship 2007 In New York-Main
The Jamaican pair of Arnett Ramsey and Rohan Lynch kept their heads down and their eyes on the grand prize for two days of intense competition at the Second Annual Chivas Regal World Domino Championship at the Ramada Plaza Hotel, Queens, New York, over the Labor Day holiday weekend to emerge victorious and claim the undisputed title of World's Best Domino Twosome with 3-1 triumph over their Florida rivals. - JIS/NY Photos

New York: Last weekend, domino players, their families and supporters from six countries and 13 states turned the grand ballroom of the Ramada Plaza Hotel at the JFK International Airport Compound, Queens, NY into a sporting ring as more than 100 players challenged for cash and other incentives and a chance at the title of World Domino Champions for 2007.

With the 2006 champions Dwayne 'Sniper' Henry and Leroy 'Piggy' James eliminated in the round of 16, it was left to the pair of Arnett Ramsey/Rohan Lynch and representing Jamaica, to take the Chivas Regal Challenge trophy, grand prize and title of best domino pair in the world for 2007 with a 3-1 victory in their best of five sets championship finale against the pair of Vincent Elliott/Paul Lowe, representing Florida.
The Barbadian pair of Rodney Inniss/Keith Goddard pocketed their place over the New York pair of Fitzroy Bisnott/Jeffrey Maragh.

Austin Hutchinson, President of the World Domino Promotions, Inc, producers of the annual event since last year, told the gathering at the presentation ceremony that his organization remains committed to the further promotion of the sport of dominoes as a world class event despite the limited support garnered for the 2007 championship.

The limited support forced the organizers on Saturday morning to alter the format of the contest and overall purse, delaying the expected morning start to well into the mid afternoon. The move did not seem to dampen in any way the enthusiasm of the players and fans.
"We took our losses in the interest of the sport," an upbeat Hutchinson said, promising a bigger and better tournament of champions for 2008.
