The United Black Men Of Queens Celebrate 34Th Anniversary At Gala Benefiting Local Youth

The United Black Men of Queens County celebrated their 34th anniversary with their Annual Awards Dinner themed Increasing our Wealth by Maintaining Our Heath honoring “Doctors in Our Community,” including Louis J. Auguste, MD, Sharon D. Deans, MD, Daniel Laroche, MD and James E. Satterfield, MD for their contributions.  A special President’s Award was bestowed upon New York City Police Detective Raymond D. Raymos.

All proceeds from the 34th Anniversary Dinner held at Antun’s in Queens Village, NY on October 16th, will benefit The United Black Men of Queens Mentorship and Scholarship programs.  The United Black Men of Queens (UBMQ) has been mentoring at-risk youth for over thirty years to enlighten and encourage them to reach their full potentials. 

The Mentoring Program at the Campus Magnet Educational Campus and PS/MS 147 in Cambria Heights, Queens matches students with UBMQ mentors who assist in their educational, social and moral upbringing.  Students engage in a multi-faceted program to assist them in overcoming life-skill issues that impact their lives daily.  UBMQ offers academic assistance, group workshops, Regent Exam and SAT preparation, and counseling to students. 

Founded in 1974, The United Black Men of Queens County, Inc. is a group of professional and civic minded men who serve residents in the borough of Queens, with a special interest in promoting the welfare of at-risk African-American youth.  Active members include Lawrence J. Cormier, J.W. Vincent Cordice, Jr., MD, Rev. Dr. Charles L. Norris, Sr., New York State Assemblyman William H. Scarborough, Judge Alton R. Waldon, Donald P. Vernon, Esq., Robert A. Jenkins, Congressman Gregory W. Meeks, and Richard J. Gibbs.
