Digicel Sponsors Chris Gayle - Led Pro 15/15 Tourney In Jamaica

Published Oct 10, 2009

The second Chris Gayle-led Pro 15/15 cricket tournament kicks off at the Kaiser Sports Club in Discovery Bay on Sunday, October 18th with Digicel on board as main sponsors.

Featuring star cricketers of the past and present from across the Caribbean, Digicel-sponsored Ramnaresh Sarwan, Jerome Taylor and Chris Gayle will be joined by cricket legends Courtney Walsh, Richie Richardson and Curtly Ambrose and others.

Commenting on the first Pro 15/15 match held in St. Elizabeth in August, Gayle said, “The whole day was really successful. It was a very exciting day for the kids and for the thousands of people who turned up to enjoy the action - I’m really looking forward to next Sunday.”

Showcasing the best of St. Elizabeth, St. Ann, Trelawny and Kingston, the day begins at 9:30am and will feature four matches in total with a mixed team of celebrities and local youth cricketers facing off to win a match prize at the end of the day.

As the largest sponsors of cricket across the region, Digicel is on board to support the tournament and ensure that everyone enjoys a fun day of cricket and much more with competitions for Digicel Top up, as well as a grand prize of a top-of-the-range BlackBerry.

Gayle has commended his fellow cricketers and Digicel for joining in on this initiative to connect with local communities across Jamaica. “The aim here is not only to develop a better appreciation for cricket, but also to impart some tips and tricks to aspiring young cricketers. It’s really important to have great support on initiatives like this - I’m delighted that Digicel and all the guys have come out in support of it.”

As part of the Pro 15/15 cricket tournament initiative, Gayle will donate sporting equipment courtesy of CJ Sporting to 16 schools across Jamaica including his alma maters in Kingston, Rollington Town Primary and Excelsior High.
