Youth for Human Rights International has awarded Jamaica born Caribbean correspondent, TV producer and broadcaster David Chen for outstanding achievements in ensuring human rights are known and implemented among ethnic minority groups in the United Kingdom. The award was presented by Youth for Human Rights International in London recently.

Chen of BEN TV and The Caribbean Connection was hailed as pioneer in the field of human rights in a number of ways from airing human rights public service announcements on his TV programmes to the grass roots level, involvement in increasing awareness about human rights and contributing to peace within the British communities.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Chen host the TV flagship programme, “The Breakfast Show”. He promotes love, unity and turning negatives into positive aspirations, primarily among youths within ethnic minority communities through his medium including his regular events A Taste of Our Culture.

The Founder & President of Youth for Human Rights International, Mary Shuttleworth told those attending the presentation that the purpose of Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI) is to teach youths about human rights, specifically the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and inspire them to become advocates for tolerance and peace.

“When children do not know their rights they are vulnerable. Millions of children have become victims of poverty, HIV/AIDS and human trafficking; in all parts of the inhabited world, children are at risk; knowledge of their human rights can empower young people to defend themselves and help others,” She added .
