The eight Digicel Kick Start Clinics footballers - who are currently spending one week training at Manchester City’s Academy - had a day off from training today and were taken on a tour of Manchester by Academy Coach, Nick Power.

This is the first time that the Central American footballers have visited the United Kingdom and Man. City made sure that they had an action-packed day. Kicking off with the Imperial War Museum, the boys learned all about World Wars I and II before taking in Manchester Cathedral, the Urbis Museum, Manchester City market, and the Museum of Science and Industry, and then jumped on the Manchester Big Wheel which gave them a panoramic view of the city. Man. City’s TV crew also accompanied the boys on their tour of the city as it is filming a documentary about their trip to Manchester.

Speaking about the tour of the city, Kevin Mendoza from El Salvador said: “It’s been a tough week physically with all the training sessions at Man. City’s Academy, so it was great to have a day off to take a tour of Manchester. This is my first time in the UK and Nick Power, one of the Academy’s coaches, showed us all of the sights.”

Digicel Sponsorship Manager for Central America, Vittorio Gotuzzo, said: “The boys have worked very hard all week so it was good for them to have today off so that they could take in the sights of Manchester. The feedback from the coaches has been very positive about their performance during the training sessions and the club has gone out of its way to make sure that they have been learned all about how the Academy is run and what they need to do to make it as a professional footballer.”
