the Vessel. by lois is a Collection by model, author and designer Lois Samuels which consists of multi-seasonal garments for women, that draw inspiration from traditional menswear and industrial typologies in particular the suit and the uniform. A blend that creates a collection that is both absolutely comfortable and undeniably feminine.

Following a much lauded preview during the Caribbean Fashion Week in June 2009 in Lois’ home country of Jamaica. the Vessel. by lois will be presented in its entirety during New York’s Fashion Week on September 10, 2009 from 2-3 at Gallery 548 West 28th Street in Chelsea.
The Vessel. by lois will be working with and contributing to the Mannings Boys Home that shelters and educates abandoned and abused boys in St. Elizabeth Jamaica.
With a love for fashion and design from her early years. Lois entered the world of fashion as a model and travelled the fashion capitals working for designers as Lacroix, Miyake, Rucci and Muglier.
Her fashion education came through these amazing experiences and through her search for clothing that collaborated with her spirit and identity.
Her first Collection presents a clean, simple and basic slate which she believes is the foundation of what fashion should represent - A reserved, comfortable and graceful look for any woman.
Located in the beautiful country hillside of Southfield in St. Elizabeth is the Mannings Boys Home. The home shelters and educates abused and abandoned boys from the age of 10-18 .
I wanted to work with Mannings Boys Home because I saw where troubled boys had a difficult journey in the world as they became men. Many turn to crime, father many children and go through life facing various psychological and emotional issues.
The Institution was formed over 100 years ago by Mr. Manning an English plantation owner and now run by the Child Development
Agency of Jamaica (CDA), much of the building is in need of repair especially after being hit by Hurricane Dean two years ago. They have many needs some are basic from toiletries to bed linen as well as educational - computers and books. With help from the Allen Shaw Foundation the Vessel.by lois, sent its first shipment of books and toiletries to the island on the first week of August 2009 for which they were so thankful.
Farming thrives in this area of St. Elizabeth and the farm lands can be seen from the hillside down to the fishing villages of Pedro Plain and the rustic touristy areas of Treasure Beach. They would love to start a goat farm at some point, which could proof to be a lucrative business that would help in maintaining the home as well as teaching the boys how to farm. Bringing awareness to this home means so much to me and from sales of each garment I will be giving a percentage to them. I am also taking donations in any form to support them.
