2 Day Louise Bennett-Coverley Reading Festival, January 31 – February 1, 2008, SR-BCC Library, Pembroke Pines, Florida

Florida, January 18, 2008 - The Friends of South Regional–BCC Library, the Broward Community College (BCC) and the Jamaican Folk Revue will host a two-day cultural event “Colonization in Reverse” – the Louise Bennett-Coverley Reading Festival and Concert to be staged at the Broward County South Regional-Library, beginning on Thursday, January 31 through Friday, February 1st.

The event will address the life and works of Jamaica’s cultural ambassador, the late Hon. Louise Bennett-Coverley, O.J., author, comedienne and social commentator.

Panelists will include several persons who worked with Miss Lou in her varied cultural presentations, books and audio material. Those include Professor Mervyn Morris, UWI, Mona, Ms. Joan Andrea Hutchinson, author and comedienne, Dr. Susan Davis, South Florida educator, Mr. Marlon Hill, advisory board member to Jamaican Diaspora Southern USA, Dr. Marva McLean, poet and educator and Attorney George Lewis. Moderator will be Dr. Marcia Magnus.

The Concert on February 1st will celebrate the start of Black History Month activities at the Library and BCC. Performers will include a supporting cast of local South Florida talent, headlined by Ms. Joan Andrea Hutchinson and emceed by Mr. Steve Higgins. Admission to the concert will be a $10 donation which will go towards the Louise Bennett-Coverley Scholarship for the Performing Arts.
