NEW YORK (JIS): The Banbury Basic School will remain open for the foreseeable future, noted Pat Baccas, CEO of Future Movement Radio, heard in Atlanta, Georgia, on WGUN, 1010 AM. She heads to Jamaica on Thursday of this week (November 29) and will hand over a donation of US$4,000.00 during a meeting with the school board of the Banbury Basic School in Westmoreland. The funds will go towards much need repairs and refurbishing of the early childhood education facility.
Baccas, Irwin Clare, Anthony Turner and Anton Tomlinson of the Banbury Basic School Refurbishing Project, were able to raise the funds for the project from a radio-thon that was organized on her radio program a few weeks ago.
"The radio-thon was extremely successful as we received tremendous support from the local residents in Atlanta, Georgia and from friends and business associates from as far as the New York tri-state area. They came through for the kids in a big way. I plan to continue with other fundraising ventures to further assist the school," she said.
While in Jamaica, Baccas will meet with the principal, Ms. Pearline McKitty, the pastor of the Wesleyan Holiness Church and members of the school board to determine exactly how the money will be spent and to determine other ways her charitable unit could assist the school.
"The monies collected will be well spent as the school was so badly in need repairs that the school board had made a decision that the institution would be permanently closed this month unless funds for the repairs could be identified," Baccas said.
One future project that she has earmarked for the institution is a 'lunch feeding program' to be launched in 2008.
"We plan to purchase a stove and a refrigerator, so we can kick-start the lunch feeding program for the kids. It is extremely important that they (the kids) are well feed and nourished while they are in school," she said.
All donations to the project will be tax deductible to the fullest extent under applicable laws and should be made payable to the Integrity Children's Fund, an Atlanta-based 501 (C ) 3 not-for-profit corporation that will oversee the school’s refurbishing project.Pat Baccas can be contacted at; futuremovementradio@gmail.com, Tel: 678-508-7128
