Creative Industries Forum: May 1, 2007, Jamaica

Vision 2012: Building Competitiveness through Creativity is the theme for an action- oriented forum to be held on May 1, 2007. The forum is being hosted by Jamaica Trade and Invest (JTI/JAMPRO) and will focus on key issues of great impact on the industry.

“Industry players will have another opportunity not just to share their views, but to chart the way forward to achieve the growth and development required,” according to head of the Creative Industries Unit at JTI, Del Crooks.

Among the number of issues to be discussed are: Building the right policy framework; innovation and creativity; sharing of content and intellectual property.

The forum is expected to feature a number of local and international experts in the respective areas of the industry.

The presenters at the Forum will include Ivan Berry, formerly of Sony BMG productions and co-creator of the annual St. Kitts Music Festiva. His management company iB Entertainment in Canada is now a trailblazer in the music publishing.

Also slated to present are Jonathon Alexander, founder of Tap It Inc. (USA), who successfully created technologies and processes facilitating artists and radio stations alike; Horace Madison of Madison Smallwood, an investment planner and supervisor in the entertainment industry.

Other panelists include Herbie Miller, Jamaican cultural historian with years of experience managing musical icons; Ian Walcott, Manager of the Cultural Action Fund, Barbados as well as other experts from Brazil and the Caribbean.

“Building Competitiveness Through Creativity” will be relevant to a wide range of stakeholders in the industry, including Writers, Publishers, Designers, Artists, Musicians The event will focus on how intellectual property can be leveraged as Collateral in the Creative Industries as well as enhanced opportunities in content management through new technologies, while providing critical updates on the policy framework being put in place for the country’s Creative Industries. Participants will form an important part of the dialogue, and their contribution will play a crucial role in the agreed next steps for developing the country’s Creative Industries.
