Enormously Entertaing, Concubine? Returns For 2 Shows, March 15, 16, 2008 Florida

If you missed Aston Cooke's latest theatrical release, Concubine?, on their recent South Florida run, then Good News! There is still a chance to enjoy this compelling comedic drama when it returns for two final shows, March 15 at Coral Reef High School and March 16 at Coral Springs Center for the Arts.

Concubine? recently delighted audiences in Royal Palm Beach and Coral Springs, and has created quite a stir among patrons who thoroughly enjoyed this outstanding tour de force. At intermission one patron was overheard stating that "if it dun now me get me money's worth," an indication of his complete enjoyment and satisfaction with the play. The audience (largely female) was able to relate and feel connected to the material as it unfolded onstage, at times eliciting unrestrained comments.

In Concubine?, Winston (Chris McFarlane) and Patsy (Dahlia Harris) lived together in a common-law relationship for 15 years, until Winston asks Patsy to leave the house so he could get married to a younger woman. All hell breaks loose as Patsy refuses to vacate the house, which she had called home for 15 years.

Dahlia Harris is outstanding in her acting, convincingly capturing the wide range of emotions of a woman scorned. She has surely cemented her position as a leading actress with the brilliant portrayal of the lead role, Patsy. Supporting actress, Terri Salmon (Shelly), brings much life and energy to the show from the moment she enters the stage as Patsy's "bad gyal" friend Shelly, perfectly embodying the overbearing arrogance and "mi-nuh-'fraid-a-nobody" attitude. Actor Boy winner, Christopher McFarlane, is quite believable in his role as Winston. Jerry Benzwick and the beautiful Marsha Campbell add much color to the cast of characters.

The play was scheduled for one last performance at Coral Reef High School on March 15, but due to the overwhelming response and a deluge of calls, the promoters have decided to add a fourth show at Coral Springs Center for the Arts on Sunday, March 16.

Tickets for Concubine? are on sale at selected Caribbean outlets and the Coral Springs box office. Patrons are urged to purchase tickets early, as good seats are anticipated to go fast. The Play is sponsored by Jamaica National Money Transfer and is presented by Riddims Marketing and Jamaica Awareness.
