The Kiwanis Clubs Of Division 23 East Recognize Special Day of Service through an Environmentally Focussed Project titled “Climate Change & Community Adaptation”
Saturday April 5, 2008 recognized as Kiwanis One Day – a global action day benefiting children and communities
WHEN: Saturday, April 5, 2008 , 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM,
WHERE: Campion College Auditorium, 105 Old Hope Road , Kingston 6
WHAT:
The objective of the Kiwanis One Day project is to bring together Kiwanis- family members and community leaders and members, particularly those living in flood-prone, low-lying areas, in order to heighten community awareness of global and national climate change and its devastating effects through discussions on, inter alia:
- The global environmental issues which threaten Jamaica ;
- The national environmental issues which threaten Jamaica ;
- The impact on the community;
- The impact on the economy;
- Mitigation, adaptation and the way forward for the community.
The format is as follows:
- A Mini Expo to involve a display/promotion of sponsors’ goods and services as well as the dissemination of material focussing on environmental issues.
- A Speakers’ Forum which will consist of presentations by qualified, eminent speakers drawn from national and private bodies involved in the environment, followed by questions and answers and interspersed with Cultural Presentations.
- The Nobel Peace Prize documentary, “An Inconvenient Truth’ will be shown.
