Published Aug 26, 2008

The Twelfth Annual Toronto Urban Music Festival, (TUMF), now re-branded as URBAN MUSIC WEEK, will return once again to the CNE Bandshell Park. Presented by WORD Magazine and Toronto Urban Music Festival Incorporated, a non-profit organization dedicated to showcasing the best in Canadian and international urban music and multidisciplinary talent in a festival setting, this is Canada's largest urban music festival, bringing out more than 10,000 urbanites each year. The brainchild of the publishers of WORD Magazine, the festival provides an opportunity to showcase the best of urban music and lifestyle in Toronto while providing marketers with a unique vehicle to reach the urban market. Music, film, dance, spoken word and music industry discussion panels are all a mainstay of the Urban Music Week celebration. For more information on events and ticket prices please visit www.tumf.net.

Headlining this year’s music will be the LA-based, underground hip hop sensation DILATED PEOPLES www.myspace.com/dilatedpeoples who will be performing Saturday Aug. 30th at CNE Bandshell Park.

Other highlights at the Bandshell are dance performances by R.U.K.U.S Dance Troop, Nu Limit, DLM Dance Studio, Crazy Crew, 2 Badd, O.I.P Dance Studio, Rated E and Baddest Bratz.

This year’s Urban Arts Showcase taking place Sept. 4 – 6 will feature several emerging Canadian urban artists in various Toronto clubs to be announced. Musical genres will include hip hop, rap, reggae, soul/r&b and DJs. This showcase will also present innovative dance performances as well as riveting spoken word and poetry.

The original Toronto Urban Film Festival is one of the main components of Urban Music Week.

The spotlight will be on urban films: shorts, documentaries and feature films plus the Special Master Class. Friday Aug. 29th – Monday, Aug. 31st @ National Film Board Cinema, 150 John St.

An Urban Music Conference is a festival must-attend for those who want to brush up on their knowledge of the music industry and learn valuable information about how to better develop a career in music. Keynote Speaker at the conference will be Paul Miller aka DJ Spooky.

Friday, September 5th @ OISE Auditorium, 252 Bloor Street West Toronto, (St. George Subway)
