Jamaica Trade and Invest (JAMPRO) will attend its fifth Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI) locations expo in Los Angeles, USA from April 12 to 14.

Jamaica recorded some success from last year’s visit when it sealed the deal for a major Warner Brothers feature which is scheduled for release this summer. The production, Licence to Wed, stars Robin Williams.

The production was in Jamaica for ten weeks last year employed over 250 people with a spend of US$3 million. The agency spent J$850,000 for that event last year.

Jamaica’s film commissioner, Del Crooks says “the event presents another glorious opportunity for Jamaica to be presented as a film destination, this year under the theme ‘Today’s Jamaica Means Business’.”

The JTI/Jamaica’s Film Commission’s booth will showcase the best of Jamaica’s exotic locations, services along with promoting the world class talent and crew available in Jamaica.

Crooks added that one of the major objectives of attending the two-day event is to promote the signing of the UK production treaty with Jamaica; along with highlighting Jamaica as a film friendly country with diverse locations; while highlight the role of Jamaica Trade and Invest as it continues to attract investment and create job opportunities in the film industry.

The exhibition is the AFCI’s premier event and the only trade expo for Film Commissions in the United States of America and attracts over 3,500 visitors made up of studio executives, producers, directors, cinematographers and locations scouts from all segments of the entertainment industry. This trade expo is a targeted event as it is not open to the general public and sees only film practitioners visiting the exhibitors.
