Jamaica College Old Boys’ presents Monty Alexander in concert - December 8, 2007, New York

Published Nov 19, 2007

NEW YORK, NY - November 19, 2007 – World renowned Jamaican Jazzist Monty Alexander will headline the Annual Reunion & Fundraiser for the Jamaica College Old Boys Association- (JCOBA), New York Chapter on Saturday, December 8, 2007 at the New Voices Academy of Creative Arts in Park Slope, on 18th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues, Brooklyn .

“This year’s concert event and fundraiser will be the largest ever undertaken by the JCOBA,” said Roland Brammer, president of the JCOBA – New York chapter. “I am happy that Monty Alexander who is a distinguished ‘Old Boy’ (alumni) has agreed to be our headliner, allowing his New York fan base a chance to see him perform his jazz standards – Jamaican style, outside Europe as the holiday season approaches.”

With part proceeds to benefit two New York area charities, Brammer, the newly elected vice president of the Union of Jamaican Alumni Associations (UJAA), is hoping that the concert event can draw on broad-based support from the Tri-State area.

Part proceeds will be given to the New York City ACT-SO, an academic enrichment program catering to African American high school students and to the New Voices Academy . “Frank Giordanno, principal of the school has been very kind and generous to our association, and we thank him and his staff for their assistance,” Brammer noted.

Over the past decade, the JCOBA has supported a number of initiatives in Jamaica and the United States . Among them, Team Jamaica Bickle feeding programme for athletes taking part in the Penn Relays Carnival, Jamaica College Track Team and the Jamaica College Chapel Choir.

Brammer will double as the event planner and technical director and will be assisted by his dedicated team of ‘Old Boys.’

Corporate partners for the JCOBA/Monty Alexander concert event include Grace Money Services, Air Jamaica, Jamaica Tourist Board, National Home Care, Inc of Florida , Brammer’s Subway at Nostrand Avenue and Perry Ellis for designing the Jamaica College Ping Polo Shirts, which will be on sale at the fundraiser.

Advance tickets for the event can be purchased by calling 917-806-7027, 917-459-6845 or other members of the JCOBA – New York chapter.
