Jamaican Diaspora Southern U.S. To Host Half Day Conference - March 31, 2007, Lauderhill, Florida

Published Mar 13, 2007

The Jamaican Diaspora Southern United States will host a half day mini-conference on Saturday, March 31, 2007, 10am to 2pm, at the Inverrary Hotel, 3501 Inverrary Blvd in Lauderhill. All Jamaicans and community organizations - Alumni, Business, Charitable, Faith-based, Social, or Cultural - and their representative leaders are invited to attend and participate in break-out group sessions to discuss various areas of mutual interests including Education, Health, Civic Engagement, Faith-based initiatives, Youth, and Culture.

“Communication and one-on-one engagement are a critical part of the development of the Jamaican Diaspora movement. Working groups are expected to formulate the backbone of pursuing collaborative goals and also ensuring that action is taken on issues of importance to the community,”cites Marlon Hill, Jamaican Diaspora Advisory Board member for the Southern United States.

In January, the Jamaican Diaspora Southern US appointed regional leaders within the different southern states in an effort to encourage the development of active working groups for ongoing progress and development and engage Jamaicans on a grassroots level.

“The involvement of all organizations and their leaders is an important step in our community organizing effort. Ideas, initiatives, and action will rise out of continued conversations and engagement,”stated Commissioner Dale Holness, regional leader for Broward County, Florida.

For more information or to confirm attendance, call 786-349-2584 or email info@marlonhill.com.

Supporting sponsors (to date) include JahNet's Jamaican Cuisine, Ocho Rios Miami, SouthFloridaCaribbeanNews.Com, Caribbean National Weekly, South Florida Gleaner Extra, Caribbean Today, Caribbean Contact, News/Talk 1080AM WTPS, D.J. MCVIS, Inc., Commissioner Dale Holness, and Inverrary Hotel.

The Jamaican Diaspora includes all Jamaican nationals and persons of Jamaican heritage (their family and friends) who reside overseas around the world, including the Southern United States. The Jamaican Diaspora Movement is a historic opportunity to unite and galvanize all Jamaicans, their talents, resources, and potential throughout the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and around the world for the benefit of their local communities and the future development and support of Jamaica.
