This year WorldBeat Center is celebrating it's Annual Women's History Month with a special dedication to Audre Lorde.

Audre Lorde was a liberating poet. Her writings protest against the swallowing of black American culture by an indifferent white population, against the perpetuation of sex discrimination, and against the neglect of the movement for gay rights. Her poetry, however, is not entirely political in content. It is extremely romantic in nature and is described by Joan Martin as ringing with "passion, sincerely, perception and depth of feelings".

Charlotte Hill O'Neal aka Mama C. is an internationally known visual artist, writer, musician, film maker and spoken word artist with many years of experience. She was born in Kansas, USA and has lived in Africa with her husband, Pete O'Neal, who is the founder of United African Alliance Community Center UAACC since 1970. She is co-director of the UAACC located in Arusha, TZ. She and her husband are also former members of the Kansas City Chapter of the Black Panther Party of which Pete O'Neal was the founder and Chairman. Her hard hitting reflections of life and love and community activism are high-lighted by the dramatic delivery of her spoken word performances often laced throughout with her unique vocals and percussion.
