Kingston, Jamaica :-- Fashion aficionados Saint International host its third staging of the highly anticipated FASHIONBLOCK on the Gloucestershire Avenue, Montego Bay's "Hip Strip". On Saturday May 3, the second city unveils the longest runway in the Caribbean, as it showcases the vibrant and inimitable combination of high glamour, Jamaica 's best designers and top international models.
This year’s show will see several Montego Bay designers as well as locally discovered talents on display. The DIGICEL Couture Collection will be launched at the vent, done by top Avant Garde Designer extraordinaire, Dexter PottingerCasmar James (the new Fashion Face of The Caribbean) and Venecia Bennett (discovered at Faces of Summer 2005).
Saints International's principal, Deiwght Peters, is ecstatic about this year's staging. "Montego Bay holds a special place in my heart, that's where I found one of my biggest superstars to date - Canise Jackson - for the very first FACES OF SUMMER. I also believe Western Jamaica has a very fashionable side and should be respected as such," commented Saint International premier, Deiwght Peters. "SAINT INTERNATIONAL supports Western Jamaica in the quest to build the fashion profile of our local designers. It will be an exciting night of unadulterated high energy glamour," he finished.
Indeed a costly endeavour, SAINT INTERNATIONAL, is determined to keeping the event a free admission charge for patrons." With sponsors, Digicel, Sunday Herald, Zip FM, Linkz 96 FM, TVJ Electrotech, Ping 's Fabric, Nationwide Radio, Knutsford Express, and Mitsubishi on board, this event is touted to be a success. Also, some of the Hip Strip's hippest businesses have welcomed the event with open arms and have thrown their full support for the event including Coral Cliff, The Brewery, Tony's Pizza and Wexford Court.
Initially, the event was conceived as a partnership with SAINT INTERNATIONAL and Gloucester Avenue Business Association. The primary objective was to re-energize the once popular Monday Nite Out on the Mobay Hip Strip. Additionally, the event sought to create a great platform to showcase the talented designers from Western Jamaica and also for Jamaica 's leading designers to exhibit to a new audience-Western Jamaica.
Last year, after the fiasco at the previous week's Carnival Road March, the police officers credited the well organized FASHIONBLOCK event to bring back a semblance of order to the western city.
Dare to be on Montego Bay's Hip Strip on Saturday, May 3, when the free fashion spectacle, FASHIONBLOCK, positions itself as the glamorous Jamaican event to be seen by the world, adding a new dimension for the tourist experience in Jamaica.
