The legacy of their dad, reggae vocalist Denroy "I'll Do Anything For You" Morgan has clearly been passed to group members who have performed as a group since 1991. They are one of the main draw cards for Irie Jamboree 07.
Legendary reggae band Morgan Heritage, with hits "Brooklyn & Jamaica," "Tell Me How Come," "Down By The River," "People Are Fighting," "Set Yourself Free" and "Protect Us Jah" are now officially confirmed as one of the headliners set to grace the Irie Jamboree stage at Roy Wilkins Park, Queens on Labor Day, Sunday, September 2 2007.
It is a home coming of sorts for the reggae group since all band members were originally born in Brooklyn, New York. The group began recording with their father in the early '90s and although they attended school in Springfield, MA , they spent their weekends in their father's studio in Brooklyn. It has been an extremely long time…easily over 5 years since the group last performed at home on a major outdoor event however they are ready to rock fans – bald heads and Rasta's alike – since 'you don't have to dread to be Rasta.'
Cultural singer Luciano, who wreaked havoc at the Montreal International Reggae Festival last week is another artist patrons will be eager to see perform at Jamboree. After a phenomenal 6-week Brazilian tour which was completed recently and an impressive performance at Roy Wilkins Park two years ago, Luciano is just the right performer to add luster to the lineup.
On the dancehall tip, all eyes will be focused on influential female dancehall artist Lady Saw who will be making her debut at the annual summer soirée. Saw in no stranger to the Big Apple having performed here on numerous occasions. She will be joined on stage by multiple Grammy winner Stephen Marley, Assassin, Mr. Vegas, Anthony B, Munga, Jovi Rockwell, Beenieman, Tony Matterhorn, Etana, Pressure, Da'Ville and other acts to be announced soon.
