West Indies batting star Shivnarine Chanderpaul hit a courageous, unbeaten century against Pakistan in the second One Day International of the Fortune Cup Series at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Friday.

The knock was, however, not enough to lead the West Indies to victory as they fell 24 runs short – making 208 all out in 48.5 overs after Pakistan made 232 from 49 overs. Chanderpaul -- the International Cricketer of the Year -- made 107 not out with six boundaries to bring up his ninth One-Day century.

After the match Head Coach, John Dyson, said he felt the Windies should have won the match. The defeat left the Windies 2-0 down in the three-match series.

“Shiv played another brilliant inning, but he needed to help from the other end. Overall, the result today was disappointing. We did well to restrict them and we all knew this was a total we should have reached. They (Pakistan) bowled very well, they knew they had to bowl well to win. When I look at the match, we just did not bat and well as we can,” Dyson said after the match.

“We have got to keep working on improving in all areas – batting, bowling and fielding. We get into winning situations and we are not getting home. We need more players to contribute. We get good performances from the main contributors, but what I would love to see is some of the other players putting their hands up and taking us home.”

The final match is on Sunday at 3 pm (7 am Eastern Caribbean Time/6 am Jamaica Time). After the series the Windies will have a full tour of New Zealand where they will play two Tests, two T20 Internationals and five One-Day Internationals.
